9 – The Movie

9-movie-poster

Tim Burton’s latest production – 9 – was released on an epic date of 09-09-09, creating a buzz amongst the cine-goers from the very beginning of its promotion. And as with any other Tim Burton movie, this movie too had a unique storyline and involved the application of the mind and a lot of concentration to digest the concept. And if you are a die-hard Burton fan, you would be disappointed to know that Johnny Depp doesn’t feature in this one. The producer-director rather choose Elijah wood (Frodo of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and Mumbo of Happy Feet) to lend his voice to the lead character – 9!

9movie-500x315The story revolves around 9 tiny characters, each named from 1 to 9, whose bodies are made out of what appeared as sack to me. They have eyes that see to be like binoculars, and they walk around like real people – the only difference being that they are tiny. A scientist created a machine which could think on its own, and convert scrap into other machines, to be used in the war. The tables turn when the machines start thinking on their own and destroy the human race on the planet. The scientist creates these 9 characters, giving each of them a piece of their mind, their challenge being to put an end to the machine and is destruction. Will they be able to do it is what the rest of the film deals in.

9-Movie Like any other Tim Burton movie, the animation and special effects are top notch. Some of he escape sequences are so awesomely directed. And the concept is mind boggling. The cast is superbly chosen, each doing justice to its character. What is not so great about this movie is the fact that the ending is a bit predictable. That is something that could have been avoided. Other wise, all in all, an entertaining film that running at less than 90 minutes, ends before you say “Now this is getting boring!?”

My Verdict: Catch it if you must. An unusual story – but you can also live without it! :)

Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs!

cloudy_keyart_wallpaper_1024

Recently got an opportunity to watch this long awaited film – Cloudy with a chance of meatballs did everything to amuse me, and yes, I was amused!

cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs_1600x1200 Based on a book by the same name by Judy Brett, the movie begins with a motto “The world needs originality”, and this drives a small kid named Flint into making a lot of weird and silly inventions, but none seem to work right! But one day, he accidently makes a machine which could convert water into food! Yes, you got that right….FOOD! What follows is hotdogs, cheese burgers ad spaghetti dropping in from the sky, and every one is happy. But of course, technology takes its course, and soon the size of the food increases, creating havoc in the town. The rest of the story involves people trying to save the world from this maddened food rain!

cloudy_meatballs_trailer_FINAL_h264What I liked about this movie was the story and of course, the top-notch animation sequences. The movie is down right funny, especially the scene when Flint asks his dad to send him an email. The entire sequence is hilarious, and I could relate to it so much. The film clearly follows the motto it begins with – yes, the movie is original, and unlike any other movie ever made! I am not saying that it is the best film ever, all I am saying is that its original, and fresh, and that’s what we, as audience, need!

Of course there were times when you feel how did this happen, but the over all impact of the film is such that you kind of feel partial towards it, and leave those “Just to build on time” sequences aside! Over all, a light, funny, original and visually appealing movie that is simply delicious and leaves your mouth watering for the most part of it! ;)

My verdict: Catch it! and trust me, you shall come out of the theatres singing:Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) in Sony Pictures Animation's CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS.

It’s raining sunshine, All over mankind,

it’s not only in your mind, it is raining sunshine!

Happy viewing everyone! :)

The verdict is in....

Several people have asked me a question - why start another blog when you already have one set up? And my answer to them has been consistent: I wanted something to be completely dedicated to one of my favorite pass-times - and it had to be MOVIES! :)

Starting now, I will be posting my comments on the movies that I see....be it new or old, good or bad...I will write about what I liked, and what I didn't. The review will obviously not be professional - No, I will not talk about the cinematography and the direction - I will only be talking about what touched my heart, and what didn't! After all, who the hell understands what on earth does Cinematography, and costume designing means!!!! If something is worth talking about, it will be talked!
And yes, I will be giving my verdict about the movie....whether it should be catched, or on the contrary, thrashed! :D

I request the readers to leave their comments if they feal my review is justified, or criticise if I am biased!

So, if you need a review....you know where to stop by....the Ultimate Movie Review is finally up and running! :)
